Font choice

We chose a font that is very similar to hand writing not only because it is minimalistic and stylish but also because it mimics an autograph and therefore when our artist releses merchandis, fans will feel like it is more personal to them.

Some artists have become known for their performance in music videos such as Michael Jackson, his dancing and performance in his 'Thriller' and 'Billie Jean' music videos greatly influenced his success.

Our chosen genre

Myself and Brittany after much research and consideration decided upon the R&B genre as we enjoy this music ourselves and therefore are very familiar with the style of these videos which allowed us to come up with an idea of a song choice and narrative fairly quickly. When choosing the genre we researched other R&B artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, iggy Azalea, Mariah Carey, Arianna Grande, Fergie and Christina Aguilera. We decided that our three focus artists would be Fergie, Iggy Azalea and Christina Aguilera as they are the most similar to the artist that we are trying to portray. Also whilst researching the Artists from this genre we decided upon our song for the music video which is "Russian Roulette" by Rihanna as we feel we can express the genre of the music video through the narrative that we have come up with for this song.

Mood Board

This is our mood board that we made to demonstrate the style and characteristics of our artist 'ELLA'. The board includes make-up looks and clothing which we feel would suit the Artist that we are trying to create. There are also style icons such as Rita Ora within our moodboard as we feel our artists style has been influenced by certain icons.The actual shape of our moodboard is a figurine of 'Ella' and in the centre is her name which is also her Logo. As a whole I think that this mood board illustrates our Artists character and style perfectly.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera is a singer, songwriter, actress dancer and record producer born in Staten Island, New York. In 1998 Christina Aguilera signed a contract with RCA records to record her debut album which was released in August in the following year.

Throughout Christina Aguilera career it is an apparent theme of hers to use raunchy themes throughout her music videos, she is able to achieve this with how the women within her music videos wear very little clothes revealing a lot of flesh, for example in her music video 'Dirty' Christina  Aguilara is seen wearing leather trousers and a bikini top. Throughout the music video there are lots of close ups of her mouth, the close up of the mouth can be seen as very sexual and provocative. Throughout the music both Christina Aguilara and the dancers are dancing in water, this helps to emphasise their bodies and again allows them to be shown as seductive which links to the name of the song 'Dirty'.

Iggy azalea

Iggy Azalea is a solo rap/r&b artist. She is conventional of the r&b genre however she breaks the conventions of the typical rapper as she is female. She has various music videos which heavily rely on narrative to illustrate the lyrics of the song. The hit single 'Fancy' music video uses intertextuality of the chick flick movie Clueless.

In her other music videos Iggy is heavily sexualised which may or may not relate to the lyrics in the song. An example of this is her work video where Iggy wears a lot of revealing clothing that shows off her curvaious figure, this would appeal to a male audience and cause idolisation from a lot of young female fans.

Audience profile

Fergie

Fergie is best know for being the lead vocalist of the R&B group The Black Eyed Peas, but has also had a successful solo artist career. Her videos are typically very provocative and sexually expressive with the theme of partying however the video of her hit song 'big girls don't cry' breaks these conventions as it has a theme of romance. However Fergie is still subtly sexualised within the video.

Fergies most recent music video for the single "M.I.L.F" has proved to be quite controversial in the media due to it's hidden message. Fergie herself has explained that the idea behind this video was to empower mother with careers. The video features a range of successful celebrity mothers such as Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigan, Ciara and more. The video aims to break the stereotypes of mothers being conservative and serving only to be maternal by sexualising these mothers and presenting them as provocative and strong characters.
